Jinfo Mountain (Golden Buddha Mountain) sits about 105 km south of downtown Chongqing in Nanchuan District, reached by a roughly two-hour direct coach from Chongqing's long-distance bus station to Nanchuan, followed by a local shuttle bus up to the scenic area entrance. Part of a national nature reserve and UNESCO-listed South China Karst site, Jinfo Mountain features a high alpine plateau at around 2,000 meters, karst rock formations, dense subtropical forest, and a cable car that lifts visitors most of the way to the summit viewing platforms, from which the golden-hued rock face that gives the mountain its name is visible on clear days. A typical day trip starts with an early coach departure from Chongqing (services run from around 8:30 a.m.), arriving in Nanchuan by mid-morning and reaching the scenic area entrance shortly after; the cable car ride up takes about 20-30 minutes, followed by two to four hours walking the plateau boardwalks and viewpoints. Food options are limited on the mountain itself, so packing snacks or eating in Nanchuan town before the ascent is advisable, though small restaurants near the cable car base station serve simple noodle and rice dishes. Jinfo Mountain is popular in summer as a heat-escape destination, since its elevation keeps temperatures noticeably cooler than the Chongqing basin, while autumn brings clearer skies for the summit views; arriving on the first available coach maximizes time on the plateau before the last shuttle bus and coach back to the city in the late afternoon.
