Anhui is an inland province in eastern China, best known for the granite peaks of Huangshan (Yellow Mountain), the UNESCO-listed Huizhou villages of Hongcun and Xidi, and the Buddhist mountain of Jiuhua Shan. Its capital and largest city is Hefei. Anhui is the home of Hui cuisine, Xuan paper and Hui ink, and some of China's most famous teas. It has no sea coast, but the Yangtze River, Chaohu Lake and Taiping Lake give it plenty of waterfront.
Accommodation overview
Anhui's accommodation is concentrated in three clusters. Tunxi (Huangshan City) is the main base, with guesthouses and business hotels near Old Street, the railway station and buses to Hongcun and Xidi. Huangshan's summit has a handful of basic, costly hotels (Beihai, Xihai, Paiyunlou, Shilin) that sell out weeks ahead. Hefei, the provincial capital, has the international chains and business hotels, while Jiuhua Shan, Wuhu and Anqing offer mid-range four-star options and budget chains. Budget rooms start around CNY 150 a night, mid-range runs CNY 350-900, and luxury properties exceed CNY 800. Prices rise sharply during the Golden Week (1-7 October) and May Day, so book early.
- Budget

Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.
Summit hotels on Huangshan (Beihai, Xihai, Paiyunlou, Shilin) have very limited beds and sell out weeks ahead for weekends, holidays and autumn; book 3-4 weeks early through Trip.com or the hotel's official site.
Avoid the Golden Weeks (1-7 October) and May Day: rates on Huangshan and in Tunxi can double.
Summit rooms are basic and expensive; bring a warm jacket even in summer.
Pack light for a summit night: porters carry bags up for a fee, and cable cars (Yungu, Taiping, Yuping) can shorten the climb.
Tunxi is the best base for Hongcun and Xidi day trips; the railway station and Old Street are close to most hotels there.
Foreign visitors must register at every hotel; carry the passport, as the front desk scans it on check-in.
