Huangshan Shilin Hotel

Huangshan Shilin Hotel is a pine-surrounded summit hotel at about 1,630 metres in the Beihai area of Huangshan (Yellow Mountain), Anhui Province, China. It stands near Lion Peak, one of the mountain's celebrated viewpoints, and lies in the same central hub as the much larger Beihai Hotel. The name Shilin means stone forest, a fitting reference to the granite formations and gnarled pines that dominate the landscape. Staying here places guests close to the sunrise viewing spots around Beihai, so they can walk out before dawn without a long approach. The area is also a crossroads for trails leading to Xihai Grand Canyon, Cloud Dispelling Pavilion and other viewpoints, giving a flexible base for a two-day summit itinerary. As with all summit accommodation, there is no road access, and both guests and supplies arrive on foot or by cable car and stone stairways, which keeps facilities compact. The hotel is a mid-range mountain lodge with Standard Twin and Superior rooms. Amenities include a restaurant, heating, luggage storage and access to sunrise viewing nearby. Meals are simple set dishes at summit prices, and heating is essential given the cold nights at this altitude, even in summer. The hotel is smaller and quieter than the Beihai Hotel, which some visitors prefer, though room options are more limited. Service is practical and geared to hikers, photographers and tour groups, and staff can advise on the timing of sunrise and on trail conditions after rain or snow. Rates of about CNY 800 to 1,400 per night are high for the room standard but reflect the mountain setting and limited supply of beds. Early booking is advisable for holidays and autumn weekends, and guests should pack warm and waterproof clothing for changeable weather.
