Four Seasons Resort Carmelo occupies 17 acres of parkland on the eastern bank of the Río Uruguay, reached by a short drive along Ruta 21 from the colonial port town of Carmelo in the Colonia department, 260 km west of Montevideo. Guests arriving by private boat can dock at the resort's own pier on the river. The surrounding landscape of eucalyptus forest, vineyards, and rolling grassland produces a sense of seclusion that sets the property apart from the beach resort experience of Punta del Este or José Ignacio.

The 44 bungalow-style suites are distributed across the grounds in low-lying clusters oriented to maximise garden views and privacy between units. Each bungalow features a teak deck, outdoor soaking tub, and double-height living room; interiors use natural materials — stone, dark timber, woven textiles — that reference the region's rural colonial heritage. Around-the-clock butler service is standard across all suite categories.

Recreational facilities are extensive. An 18-hole golf course runs along the river edge with water hazards framed by native tree lines. A polo field with resident horses and professional instruction is available for guests with or without prior polo experience. Clay tennis courts, a fitness centre, and two outdoor pools supplement the outdoor offer. The spa features ten treatment rooms with hydrotherapy circuits. El Patio restaurant serves Uruguayan country cuisine — asado, river fish, local vegetables — alongside a wine list drawn from the estate's own Narbona-label vineyard. A kids club with age-grouped activities operates daily in season.

Private transfers from Montevideo, Buenos Aires via the Colonia ferry connection, and Colonia del Sacramento town are available through the concierge.
