Dardanelles Strait Waterfront Promenade

The Dardanelles Strait Waterfront Promenade, known locally as the Kordon, extends along the Çarşı Mahallesi neighborhood of Çanakkale city center, tracing the western shore of the Dardanelles Strait for approximately two kilometres. This is the social heart of the city and its most atmospheric public space — a broad pedestrian esplanade lined with cafes, restaurants, waterfront parks, and historic landmarks, all facing the narrow blue channel of the Dardanelles with constant ferry and cargo ship traffic passing just offshore.

The most recognizable landmarks along the Kordon are the Troy Wooden Horse replica at İskele Meydanı (Ferry Square), Çimenlik Castle at the northern end, and the city's historic clock tower at the central square. A replica of the Nusret minelayer moored off the castle promenade is visible from much of the waterfront. In the evening, the strip of tea gardens and fish restaurants fills with locals, students from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, and visitors, creating a lively but unhurried atmosphere.

Walking the full length of the promenade from İskele Meydanı to Çimenlik Castle takes about 20 minutes at a slow stroll. Tea gardens (çay bahçesi) along the route are open from morning through late evening. The waterfront fish market operates in the early morning and is worth visiting for local colour. On clear mornings, the Kilitbahir Castle on the European shore is clearly visible directly across the strait, roughly one kilometre away.

The promenade is entirely free and open 24 hours. The ferry terminals for Eceabat (Gallipoli) and Gökçeada are located at its southern end, making the kordon the natural starting point for day trips to the peninsula or the island.
