The Çanakkale Archaeological Museum (Çanakkale Arkeoloji Müzesi) on 100. Yıl Caddesi in Çanakkale city center houses one of the most significant regional archaeological collections in northwestern Turkey. The museum's holdings draw from excavations at major sites across Çanakkale Province, including Troy, Assos, Dardanos, Alexandria Troas, and numerous tumuli and necropoleis throughout the Troad and Biga Peninsula. The permanent galleries are organized thematically and chronologically. Highlights include Bronze Age ceramics and metal objects from Troy excavations, a collection of Hellenistic and Roman funerary steles and sarcophagi, and figurines and votive offerings from temple sites across the region. A dedicated numismatic section represents the rich diversity of city-states that minted currency in the Troad during the Classical and Hellenistic periods. Inscribed stone tablets and architectural fragments too large to be housed elsewhere are also on display.
The building was expanded and partially reorganized in recent years, improving the flow between galleries. Display labels are in Turkish and English. The collection rewards visitors who have prior familiarity with Anatolian archaeology or who have already visited Troy and Assos, as it provides the artefactual context for what is seen as standing remains at those sites.
A visit takes approximately one to one and a half hours. The museum is closed Mondays and is within walking distance of the Çanakkale waterfront. It can be combined with a visit to Çimenlik Castle Military Museum, which is approximately 15 minutes on foot.
