Kaputaş Beach

Kaputaş Beach is a small, dramatically situated cove on the Turquoise Coast of Muğla province, positioned at the foot of a narrow gorge where a seasonal stream meets the sea between the towns of Kalkan and Kaş. Access requires descending approximately 187 stone steps from the D400 coastal highway, which winds above the cliffs at this point. The descent reveals a compact crescent of pale yellow sand — roughly 100 metres in length — framed by towering limestone cliffs and the gorge entrance behind the beach. The combination of bright sand, vivid turquoise-to-deep-blue water and cliff backdrop makes Kaputaş one of the most photographed beaches on the Turkish coast. The water deepens relatively quickly from shore, producing the intense colour visible from above. Clarity is exceptional, with a rocky bottom visible in the shallows. Conditions are generally calm, though the beach can receive swell from the south during storms. Sun lounger and parasol hire is available at the base of the steps at ₺100–₺150 per pair, and a small café operates from a platform near the entrance. The gorge walls cast shade onto the beach in the morning until roughly 10:00, after which the sand receives full sun through late afternoon. Parking along the D400 highway above is very limited — pull-offs for perhaps 10–15 vehicles — and fills completely by 08:30 in July and August. The Kalkan–Kaş dolmuş stops at the top of the steps on request, making public transport the most practical approach in peak season. Kaputaş is frequently included in Blue Cruise gulet itineraries as a swimming stop, and day-tour boats from Kaş and Kalkan also visit the cove.
