Swim where lifeguards are posted and follow flag warnings — green is safe, yellow is caution, red means no swimming. Rip currents are the leading beach hazard worldwide.
Caution
Watch for tide changes and marine life — jellyfish blooms, sea urchins on rocky entries, occasional shark or stingray advisories. Don’t swim alone, especially at dawn or dusk.
Tip
Reapply sunscreen every 90 minutes and after every swim. Take shade between 11 am and 3 pm — the sun is harsher than people expect, even when the air is cool.
Practical
Keep valuables out of sight or back at the accommodation. Beach theft is a small-but-real risk at busy beaches; never leave bags unattended while you’re in the water.

Is there a fee to enter the Blue Lagoon?
The lagoon section is a protected national park and charges an entry fee of ₺50–₺100 per person depending on the season. The outer open-beach stretches beyond the park gate are free to use.

Can visitors swim inside the lagoon?
Yes, swimming is permitted throughout the lagoon. The water is exceptionally calm and shallow near shore, ideal for families and children. Jet skis and motorised craft are banned inside the protected zone.

Why is İztuzu called Turtle Beach?
Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) return from the sea to nest in the sand at İztuzu each summer. The beach is a protected site and sections are closed at night during nesting season to allow undisturbed hatching.

Can visitors swim here at any time?
Swimming is permitted during daylight hours in the designated open zones. Parts of the beach are closed from dusk to dawn between June and September to protect nesting and hatchling activity. Signs clearly mark the restricted areas.

Is Kleopatra Beach in Marmaris actually connected to Cleopatra?
Local tradition holds that Cleopatra VII visited Marmaris and had sand imported from Egypt for the beach. There is no verified historical record supporting this claim, but the story is deeply embedded in local tourism identity and gives the beach its popular name.

Is the beach free to enter?
Access to the beach is free. A long public section requires no payment. Private operators charge ₺100–₺200 per sunbed-and-parasol pair on the commercial sections. Showers carry a small charge.

Is Gümbet Beach suitable for families with young children?
The bay is calm and sheltered, making it suitable for swimming, but the beach has a strong nightlife reputation and can be noisy. Families seeking a quieter environment may prefer Bardakçı Bay next door, which has a calmer character and smaller crowds.
