Göcek Coves (İnlice & Sıçan Island)

Göcek Coves encompass a collection of sheltered inlets and small beaches scattered across Göcek Bay (Göcek Körfezi) in the Fethiye district of Muğla province. The area is also known as the 12 Islands (Onikiadalar), though the count of accessible anchorages and island beaches is considerably greater. İnlice Beach and Sıçan Adası (Mouse Island) are among the most visited points, but the defining character of Göcek is the boat-access experience rather than any single destination. The coves are reachable almost exclusively by hired boat or gulet day tour from Göcek marina, with journey times ranging from 15 minutes for the nearest inlets to 30–40 minutes for the outer islands. The water throughout the bay is some of the clearest in Muğla province, with a deep blue colour and visibility exceeding 10 metres in most conditions. Bottom composition varies by cove — some have fine-sand beaches, others pebble or rocky shores. The complete absence of permanent facilities at most coves means the area retains a pristine character that distinguishes it sharply from resort beaches. Visitors must carry all food, water and supplies for the day, as there are no kiosks, restaurants or toilet facilities beyond the boat. Day-tour operators from Göcek marina offer round-trip packages covering 4–6 coves at ₺600–₺1,200 per person, typically including lunch prepared on board, snorkelling stops and swimming breaks. Private boat hire is also available for smaller groups seeking a self-directed itinerary. Göcek is a centre for Blue Cruise gulet charters, and the marina hosts a significant sailing community. Wind in the bay can increase in the afternoon due to the Meltem, but the coves themselves offer natural protection. The surrounding forested coastal hinterland gives the anchorages a greened, unspoilt rim.
