Uluborlu Castle (Uluborlu Kalesi) crowns the limestone ridge immediately above the town of Uluborlu, approximately 35 kilometres west of Isparta city. The castle occupies a naturally defensible position on a steep-sided spur that offers commanding views over the Uluborlu plain and the distant Western Taurus ranges. The fortification has roots in Byzantine and Seljuk military architecture, and it played a significant regional role during the period when Uluborlu served as the administrative capital of the Hamidoğulları beylik in the 13th and 14th centuries. The town below was known in antiquity as Apollonia in Pisidia, reflecting the depth of settlement history in this valley. The castle today is a freely accessible ruin. The curtain walls survive in varying states of preservation — some stretches reaching several metres in height, others reduced to foundation courses — and two towers retain significant portions of their original masonry. The interior of the castle precinct is now open ground covered with low scrub, and the views from the highest point justify the uphill walk. The town of Uluborlu preserves a small number of Ottoman-era wooden houses in its older neighbourhoods and a late-Ottoman mosque in the market area provides a secondary point of interest. The walk from Uluborlu town centre to the castle gate takes approximately 20 minutes via a track that starts behind the main mosque. The ascent is moderate in steepness but involves some rough ground near the top. No facilities are available at the castle itself.
