A 16th-century caravanserai on Gazi Caddesi, restored and now filled with craft shops, cafés and tea houses opposite the Great Mosque.
Hasan Paşa Hanı is a two-storey caravanserai on Gazi Caddesi in Sur, directly across from the entrance of the Ulu Cami. Building began in the early 1570s under the governor Vezirzade Hasan Paşa, son of Sokollu Mehmed Paşa. Restoration begun in 2006 turned it into a visitor hub: the ground-floor arcades hold souvenir and craft shops while a shaded courtyard serves tea and Turkish coffee. It is the easiest first stop for a solo traveller who wants to see Diyarbakır's craft shopping without leaving the main street, and prices here are higher than in the working lanes behind it.
| Hours | Shops typically Mon-Sat from about 09:00 to 19:00-20:00; tea houses stay open later (hours vary by shop) |
|---|---|
| Price | Free entry; souvenirs from 150-5,000 TRY (~$3.1-103) |
| Payment | Cash (Turkish lira) is the safest option; some larger shops accept cards. |
