Bolu is a mid-sized city in the forested mountains of northwestern Turkey, positioned on the historic Istanbul–Ankara corridor. Surrounded by dense forests, mountain lakes, and the Köroğlu range, it is nationally celebrated as Turkey's culinary heartland — chefs from the nearby Mengen district staffed Ottoman palace kitchens for centuries. Today visitors come for Yedigöller National Park, Abant Lake, Kartalkaya ski resort, and the well-preserved Ottoman towns of Mudurnu and Göynük.
Bolu sits at 742 m elevation in the forested highlands of northwestern Turkey, with a humid temperate climate (Köppen Cfb) influenced by the Black Sea and the Köroğlu Mountains. Summers are warm and green (20–27°C), rarely exceeding 30°C. Winters are cold and snowy (–2 to 6°C in January), with heavy snowfall in the mountains. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant. Annual rainfall is 450–550 mm, distributed relatively evenly through the year, with slightly wetter winters. Fog is common in valley floors in autumn and early winter.

Spring (April–June) offers the Abant crocus bloom, wildflowers, mild weather (10–25°C), and lower prices. Summer (July–August) is comfortable at 26°C max — good for camping and hiking. Winter is prime for Kartalkaya skiing but requires caution on mountain roads.
