Ağrı Hayvanat Bahçesi (Ağrı City Park)

Ağrı City Park (Şehir Parkı), officially named Ağrı Hayvanat Bahçesi though it functions primarily as an urban green space, is the main public park in Ağrı city, the provincial capital of Ağrı Province in eastern Turkey. Located in the city centre and freely accessible to all, the park provides residents of a city with limited green space a landscaped environment for exercise, social gathering, and family recreation. The park features paved and gravel walking paths winding through planted areas with trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowerbeds, alongside benches, children's play equipment, and open lawn areas. A tea garden (çay bahçesi) within the park serves tea, coffee, and light snacks, and is particularly popular with residents in the long summer evenings when families gather after the day's heat has passed. The park's modest zoo area — which gave rise to the Hayvanat Bahçesi designation — houses a small collection of native animals, of primary interest to younger children. At dawn and dusk the park hosts the city's runners, walkers, and retired residents who use it as a daily fitness and social space. For visitors, the park offers little of the historical or natural significance found at the province's major attractions, but it serves as a pleasant and convenient rest point between sightseeing — and a good place to observe the everyday domestic character of a provincial eastern Anatolian city, a contrast to the dramatic mountain scenery and archaeological sites that dominate most visitors' time in the region. The park is open daily from 07:00 to 22:00 with free admission and is most enjoyable from April through October.
