Emre Lake (Emre Gölü)

Emre Lake (Emre Gölü) is a small, reed-lined lake near Döğer in the heart of the Phrygian Valley, set among the volcanic-tufa rock formations characteristic of the İhsaniye district north of Afyonkarahisar. The lake sits at the foot of the carved volcanic outcrop that holds the Aslankaya monument — one of the most important Phrygian cult monuments in existence — which overlooks the western shore of the lake. The combination of still water, fringing reed beds, dramatic tufa outcrops and the ancient carved monument makes Emre Lake one of the most visually distinctive spots in the entire Phrygian Valley landscape. The lake is modest in area and shallow, supporting frogs, reeds and some waterfowl. It is primarily visited as a scenic complementary stop on the Aslankaya itinerary rather than as a standalone destination. The morning light, when the still water surface mirrors the rock faces, produces the most striking photographs. The road from Döğer passes close to the lake shore, and the walk from a roadside parking area to the best viewpoints takes only a few minutes on flat ground. Entry is free. A visit to the lake and Aslankaya monument together takes about one hour.
