A stunning clifftop resort on the southern coast with private beach access, featuring contemporary Sri Lankan design. Offers spacious villas with private pools, award-winning spa, and multiple dining venues.
Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort occupies the Goyambokka Estate, a coastal headland on the southern tip of Sri Lanka approximately 235 kilometres from Colombo and 40 kilometres east of Matara. The property commands a clifftop position above a private cove, with the Indian Ocean visible from virtually every point across the 36-acre estate. A private beach—Goyambokka Beach, one of the wider sandy stretches on this section of coast—is reached via a resort pathway and is protected by the headland, making it swimmable for most of the dry season from November to April. The nearest town, Tangalle, is 6 kilometres west.
The design draws on Sri Lankan vernacular architecture filtered through Anantara's aesthetic: terracotta rooftiles, hand-carved timber screens, and whitewashed columns arranged around 152 pool villas ranging from Garden Pool Villas with plunge pools to Sunset Ocean Pool Villas on the open clifftop. All villas provide 24-hour butler service, outdoor rain showers, and private pool decking. Interior finishes use locally sourced stone, hand-loom textiles, and reproductions of early Sri Lankan botanical illustrations.
Five dining venues anchor the food and beverage programme. Anantara Spice Spoons, the signature restaurant, offers a cooking-school experience in which guests select a Sri Lankan dish, source ingredients from the estate garden, prepare the recipe with a resident chef, and dine on the result. The Sea Cliff restaurant handles formal multi-course dinners with open-ocean views. A poolside dining space, beach barbecue, and lobby café complete the options.
The Anantara Spa draws from Ayurvedic and Southeast Asian wellness traditions across 12 treatment rooms and a yoga sala facing the ocean. Water sports including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkelling are available from the beach. The resort's concierge arranges guided turtle-nesting excursions to nearby hatching beaches between May and October.
