Playa San Amaro

Playa San Amaro is a well-positioned sandy beach on Ceuta's northern waterfront, located just 500 metres from the city centre along the Paseo del Mediterráneo and directly adjacent to the iconic Parque Marítimo del Mediterráneo. The beach stretches approximately 200 metres and is backed by the park's stone promenades and landscaped gardens, giving it a distinctive resort-adjacent character within an otherwise compact urban setting. Sand is fine and light-coloured, and the open Mediterranean aspect means the beach receives a reliable sea breeze for most of the summer, keeping conditions comfortable even on the hottest afternoons. The water transitions from pale jade at the shoreline to deeper blue in the swimming zone, with a moderate depth and a gradual slope into the sea. Lifeguards are stationed during the summer season, and beach showers and easy road access make Playa San Amaro the most straightforward beach in Ceuta for first-time visitors. Beach bars located along the promenade and within the park complex offer cold drinks, sandwiches, ice cream, and seafood tapas throughout the season. The adjacent Parque Marítimo del Mediterráneo features large artificial saltwater lagoons and swimming pools with entry at approximately €4, giving families a ready-made alternative or complement to open-water swimming. Public transport connections are among the best of any beach in Ceuta: both Bus Lines 1 and 2 stop within a short walk, and the beach is within a 10-minute walk of Plaza de Africa and the ferry port, making it a convenient first stop for visitors arriving by Baleàries or FRS ferry from Algeciras or Málaga. The beach is particularly popular with city workers at lunchtime during summer and with evening strollers as temperatures drop. Its proximity to the city and the park's facilities make it the most versatile and easy-to-use beach in the autonomous city.
