A cliff-backed Atlantic beach near Sopela, known as La Salvaje, popular with surfers and with naturists.
Playa de Barinatxe, locally known as La Salvaje (the wild one), lies at the foot of cliffs between Sopela and Getxo. Local guides list it as a nudist beach and it is also a surf spot. The beach is reached by a steep path from the cliff top, so it suits fit walkers rather than visitors with limited mobility. Sand coverage changes with the tide and at high tide the beach can be small, and waves and currents make swimming riskier than at estuary beaches. There are no facilities on the sand, so visitors should carry water, food and sun protection. Nudity should be expected on part of the beach; visitors who prefer to keep clothing on are free to do so.
