Hotel Parador de Gijón

Parador de Gijón occupies a converted 19th-century watermill within the Parque de Isabel La Católica, a landscaped public park in the southern district of Gijón roughly one kilometre from the seafront promenade and Playa de San Lorenzo. The parador is set beside the park's ornamental lake and retains the original mill structure as the centrepiece of the building; the interior has been upgraded to Paradores four-star standard while preserving the stone walls and timber elements characteristic of Asturian vernacular architecture. The 40 rooms and suites look out over either the park gardens and lake or the surrounding tree canopy, providing a notably peaceful atmosphere within an urban setting. The restaurant occupies a light-filled room overlooking the water and serves traditional Asturian cuisine in generous portions — fabada bean stew, cachopo stuffed veal escalope, grilled hake, and rice pudding with cinnamon — alongside a substantial daily breakfast buffet. A bar opens onto a lakeside terrace, pleasant on warm evenings. The hotel has no dedicated spa, but the park grounds, lake walking paths, and the nearby coast provide natural alternatives. A dedicated cycle path runs from the park to the seafront in approximately 15 minutes. On-site parking within the parador grounds is available.
