Hotel de la Reconquista occupies an 18th-century baroque palace in Oviedo's old city, on Calle Gil de Jaz two blocks north of the Gothic cathedral and within easy walking distance of the Fontán covered market, the El Campoamor theatre, and the main pedestrianised shopping streets. Constructed in 1752 as the Real Instituto Jovellanos and later repurposed as a Royal Hospice, the building was declared a Spanish historic monument and converted into a hotel in 1974; its carved limestone facade, colonnaded interior courtyard, and sweeping ceremonial staircase have been preserved throughout.
