Andalusia Photography Guide 2025

Capture stunning photos with our guide to the best photography spots in Andalusia.

Andalusia is Spain's southernmost autonomous community, renowned for its rich Moorish heritage, stunning Baroque architecture, and vibrant flamenco culture. Home to iconic cities like Seville, Granada, and Cรณrdoba, the region blends centuries of history with sun-soaked Mediterranean beaches and dramatic natural landscapes.

Top 10 Photo Spots

The most photogenic locations in Andalusia.

1

Mirador de San Nicolรกs โ€” Alhambra View

๐Ÿ“ธ Sunset (1-2 hours before sunset for golden light)

The world's most photographed Alhambra view โ€” the pale ochre walls of the Nasrid Palaces set against the snow-capped Sierra Nevada (in winter and spring). The viewpoint is always busy at sunset, but the view is justifiably famous. Golden hour before sunset creates magical warm light on the palace walls.

2

Court of the Lions (Patio de los Leones) โ€” Alhambra

๐Ÿ“ธ Mid-morning (10-11 AM) when natural light enters the courtyard optimally

The most iconic interior of the Alhambra โ€” delicate arcaded galleries of slender columns surrounding the famous 12-lion fountain. Natural overhead light creates constantly changing patterns on the honeycomb stucco ceiling vaults. Arguably the most beautiful architectural space in the world.

3

Plaza de Espaรฑa

๐Ÿ“ธ Golden hour (1-2 hours before sunset) and early morning (before 9 AM)

Seville's most spectacular outdoor space โ€” the sweeping semicircular building with 500 metres of ornate azulejo-tiled provincial alcoves, bridges, and a central canal. Symmetrical and grand, it photographs brilliantly at any time of day. The golden late afternoon light on the curved facade is extraordinary.

4

Caminito del Rey โ€” El Chorro Gorge

๐Ÿ“ธ Mid-morning when light reaches into the gorge (the gorge is shaded early morning)

The Guadalhorce gorge section of Caminito del Rey provides extraordinary dramatic photography โ€” sheer 300-metre rock walls, turquoise reservoirs visible far below, and the tiny figures of walkers on the pinned walkway create stunning scale and drama.

5

Ronda โ€” Puente Nuevo Bridge and Gorge

๐Ÿ“ธ Sunset from the Parador terrace (non-guests can have drinks); morning mist in valley below is magical

Ronda's Puente Nuevo bridge spanning the 120-metre deep El Tajo gorge is one of Spain's most dramatic landscapes. The old town perched on the cliff edge above the gorge creates a unique combination of architecture and natural drama. Sunset from the parador terrace looks directly down into the gorge.

6

Mezquita-Catedral โ€” Forest of Columns

๐Ÿ“ธ Early morning (free entry 8:30-9:30 AM Mon-Sat) โ€” best light and fewer people

The 856 columns with their distinctive red-and-white striped double arches create one of architecture's most mesmerising interior perspectives. The repeating pattern extends into apparent infinity in all directions. Natural light filters in from the courtyard providing even, warm illumination.

7

Setenil de las Bodegas

๐Ÿ“ธ Morning light for Cuevas del Sol (sun side); afternoon for Cuevas de la Sombra

One of Spain's most unusual and photogenic villages โ€” buildings constructed under and into massive rock overhangs, with entire streets of houses seemingly held up by the rocky ceiling above them. The Calle Cuevas del Sol and Calle Cuevas de la Sombra are the most dramatic streets.

8

Cabo de Gata โ€” Volcanic Coastline

๐Ÿ“ธ Golden hour sunrise and sunset; blue hour for long-exposure seascapes

The volcanic coastline of Cabo de Gata provides some of Andalusia's most dramatic coastal photography โ€” black volcanic rock formations, crystal turquoise water, pristine deserted beaches, and dramatic cliffs. The contrast of black rock and azure water is extraordinary.

9

Sacromonte Cave Houses

๐Ÿ“ธ Mid-morning for warm light on white cave facades; evening for atmospheric flamenco venue shots

The whitewashed cave house entrances of Sacromonte on the hillside above the Darro valley provide intimate, characterful photography โ€” potted plants, painted doors, cactus gardens, and colourful tiles contrasting with white walls. Evening flamenco lighting in cave venues is also photogenic.

10

Plaza de Espaรฑa โ€” Seville during Semana Santa

๐Ÿ“ธ After 10 PM for candlelit night processions; Holy Wednesday and Good Friday most dramatic

Seville's Semana Santa processions, with their elaborate floats (pasos) carrying ornate Virgin and Christ figures, thousands of candles, incense, and penitents in hooded robes (nazarenos), provide extraordinary documentary and atmospheric photography. The streets of Santa Cruz neighbourhood during night processions are exceptional.
