Córdoba

⏱️ 45 min by AVE train

Córdoba is one of the world's great historical cities — home to the Mezquita-Catedral, the most extraordinary religious building in the Western world. The ancient Jewish Quarter (Judería), the Roman bridge, and the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos complete an outstanding day's exploration. Even more beautiful during the May Patio Festival.

2

Cádiz

⏱️ 1h 45 min by train or bus

Europe's oldest city and one of Spain's most atmospheric — a walled city on a peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, with streets of Baroque churches, fish markets, and extraordinary freiduría (fried fish shops). The seafront is spectacular and the white-painted streets have a distinctly Caribbean-influenced character.

Highlights: Old Town walls and seafront, Mercado Central de Abastos (fresh fish market), Cathedral and sea views from tower, La Viña neighbourhood pescaíto frito, La Caleta beach
3

Jerez de la Frontera

⏱️ 1 hour by train

The spiritual home of sherry wine and flamenco, with world-class equestrian culture. A bodega tour at González Byass (home of Tío Pepe), the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School show, and the Barrio de Santiago (authentic flamenco quarter) can fill a magnificent day.

Highlights: González Byass bodega tour, Royal Equestrian School show (Tue, Thu, Fri at 12 PM), Barrio de Santiago flamenco peñas, Alcázar and Arab Baths, Sherry wine bar crawl
4

Ronda

⏱️ 2 hours by bus

Ronda's dramatic gorge setting makes it one of Spain's most spectacular towns — the Puente Nuevo bridge spanning a 120m deep gorge is unforgettable. The old town (La Ciudad) has a Moorish Alcazaba, Arab baths, and Spain's oldest bullring. Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles loved Ronda.

Highlights: Puente Nuevo bridge and El Tajo gorge, Plaza de Toros (oldest bullring), Arab Baths, Palacio de Mondragón, Views from gardens below the bridge
5

Doñana National Park

⏱️ 1 hour 15 min by car

Europe's most important wetland ecosystem requires guided 4WD tours for access. El Rocío village and hermitage are also worth visiting.

Highlights: Iberian lynx sightings (October-March), Flamingo flocks, Moving sand dunes, El Rocío village, Spanish imperial eagle
6

Highlights: Roman amphitheatre (25,000 capacity), Mosaics in private houses, Street grid of ancient city, Game of Thrones connection
7

Sierra Nevada

⏱️ 45 minutes by bus or car

Spain's highest mountain range is just 45 minutes from Granada. In winter it's a ski resort (December-April); in summer it transforms to a hiking paradise. The unique combination of skiing with views towards Africa is unforgettable. Summer hikes reach Mulhacén (3,479m, highest in Iberian Peninsula).

The steep southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada are dotted with Berber-influenced white villages — Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira — where the Moorish population retreated after the 1492 Reconquista. A unique cultural landscape combining Andalusian and North African influences. Excellent hiking, local crafts (jarapas woven rugs), and the views back up to snow-capped peaks are spectacular.
