Rožnik is the green hill rising directly behind Tivoli Park, so close to the centre that it counts as a city walk rather than a hike. The route begins on the Jakopič Promenade in Tivoli Park, passes the Tivoli Mansion and then climbs wooded paths to the summit of Rožnik at about 394 m, a rise of roughly 150 m. At the top stands the Church of the Visitation of Mary, dating from the 17th century, and a nearby inn serves traditional Slovenian dishes. The path then continues along Šišenski hrib to the Ljubljana Zoo area, past a memorial to the writer Ivan Cankar, who lived and wrote nearby. The wide packed paths are shaded by beech, hornbeam and oak and are used year-round by joggers, dog walkers and families. Total length is about 3 km one way with several descents back to the Vič and Rožna dolina districts. It makes a convenient escape for visitors with only a few free hours. Signs in Slovenian and English mark the circular routes, and mobile coverage is good throughout. Older stretches of the path can be muddy after rain, and the hill is popular on summer weekends.
