Traditional site of the first Friday prayer of the Hijrah, rebuilt in 1989, a short walk north of Quba Mosque.
Masjid al-Jumu'ah, in the Wadi Ranuna area about 900 m north of Quba Mosque, is traditionally held to be the place where the Prophet and his companions offered the first Friday prayer during the Hijrah in 622 CE. It is also called Al-Wadi, Bani Salim or Al-Ghubaib mosque. It was rebuilt and expanded in 1989 and reopened in 1992, raising capacity from about 70 to 650 worshippers. It is a quiet neighbourhood mosque used by local worshippers and visited on Madinah heritage tours, usually together with Quba. It is free and follows prayer times; the interior is for Muslim worshippers and non-Muslim access is not documented. Expect modest dress and a short stop.
