Getting Around Pomeranian 2026

Transport in Pomeranian decoded — what to use for which journey, and what each option costs.

The Pomeranian Voivodeship (Pomorskie) is Poland's Baltic coast region, centred on the Tricity of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. It combines Gdańsk's rebuilt Hanseatic Main Town, the Teutonic fortress of Malbork, the sandy Hel Peninsula, the moving dunes of Słowiński National Park and the lake-studded villages of Kashubia and Kociewie.

Public
The Tricity combines trams, buses, trolleybuses and the frequent SKM railway, with metropolitan 24-hour (24 PLN / $6.30) and 72-hour (48 PLN / $12.60) tickets covering Gdansk, Gdynia and Wejherowo. Paper SKM punch-machine singles were discontinued from 1 January 2026, so apps and Fala validators are the usual way to pay.
Taxi
Bolt, Uber, FreeNow and iTaxi are the main ride-hailing options; airport rides by app cost about 40-70 PLN ($10.50-18.40), while rank taxis quote about 60-80 PLN ($16-21).
Rental
A car helps for Kashubia, Gniew, Pelplin and the Slowinski National Park, but is a liability on the Hel road in July and August; parking in Sopot and Gdansk Main Town is limited.
Walking
Gdansk Main Town, Sopot's pier and Monte Cassino street, and the Gdynia seafront are compact and pedestrian-friendly, and a coastal promenade runs between several beach districts.

Transportation details

Full breakdown of how to get around.

Pomeranian Voivodeship (Pomorskie) is built around the Tricity (Trojmiasto) of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia, which share one coastal rail spine and a metropolitan ticket system. Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) is the region's only major commercial airport. Inside the Tricity, ZTM Gdansk trams and buses, ZKM Gdynia buses and trolleybuses, and the SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) and PKM (Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna) suburban railways connect the beaches, the Old Town and the airport. PKP Intercity links Gdansk with Warsaw (Pendolino, about 2.5 hours), Polregio runs regional trains to Malbork, Lebork, Leba and along the Hel Peninsula, and seasonal Zegluga Gdanska boats cross the Bay of Gdansk to Hel. Most day trips are possible without a car, though Kashubian villages, the Slowinski National Park and the Hel Peninsula in high summer are easier with careful planning.

Transport tips

Travel smarter, not harder.

Tip

Buy a metropolitan 24-hour ticket (24 PLN / $6.30) if moving between Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia more than a few times in a day.

Tip

SKM paper punch-machine single tickets are no longer sold; use an app, Fala validator, ticket machine or the conductor.

Tip

Seasonal boats to Hel run mainly in summer, and on weekends only in the shoulder season; confirm dates with Zegluga Gdanska before planning.

Tip

The Hel road (DW215) can take several hours on July and August weekends, so the train or boat is more reliable.

Tip

Leba trains from Lebork are seasonal and thin out after the summer timetable ends; check intercity.pl or Polregio for the exact weeks.

Tip

Malbork Castle is about a 15-minute walk from the railway station, so the day trip works without a car.

Tip

Use Bolt, Uber, FreeNow or iTaxi for upfront prices, and agree a fare before getting into a street taxi.

Tip

Fines for travelling without a validated ticket apply on trams, buses and trains; validate or activate tickets before boarding.
