Manora Island

Manora Island sits at the entrance to Karachi Harbour, reached by a short 20-30 minute boat crossing from the Keamari jetty in Karachi, making it one of the most accessible half-day escapes from the city. The island holds a cluster of historic sites within walking or short rickshaw distance of the jetty, including Manora Fort, a British colonial-era coastal defense structure; the Manora Point Lighthouse, still in operation and one of the oldest on the Pakistani coast; and the Hindu Shri Varun Dev Mandir, a small seaside temple dedicated to the god of the sea, which remains active and draws Hindu pilgrims from Karachi. Manora Beach itself offers a quieter, less developed alternative to Karachi's more crowded Clifton and Sea View beaches, with simple food stalls near the jetty serving grilled fish and snacks. A half-day itinerary suits most visitors well: an late-morning boat crossing, an hour or two exploring the fort, lighthouse, and temple on foot or by rickshaw, and a relaxed stretch on the beach before the return boat to Keamari in the afternoon. The island has limited shade and few formal facilities beyond the jetty area, so the cooler months of November through February make for a considerably more comfortable visit than Karachi's hot, humid summer.
