Eagle's Nest Hotel stands on the ridge of Duikar village at roughly 2,900 metres above sea level, positioned high above Karimabad and Altit in Hunza Valley. The viewpoint here is widely regarded as one of the finest in the entire Karakoram: on clear mornings, Rakaposhi (7,788m), Diran (7,266m), Ultar Sar (7,388m), and the distinctive Passu Cones are simultaneously visible, along with the full length of the Hunza River valley snaking between terraced fields and apricot groves far below.

Spectacular location on a cliff overlooking Hunza Valley with 360-degree mountain views. Family-run property offering traditional hospitality, home-cooked meals, and stunning sunrise/sunset vistas of Rakaposhi and surrounding peaks.

The drive up from Karimabad takes about 20 minutes on a dirt track that is accessible to ordinary vehicles in dry conditions.

The hotel is a family-run property built in traditional Hunzakut stone-and-timber style. The main building has multiple terraces cut into the cliff edge, each fitted with seating for sunrise and sunset observation — sunrise in particular draws visitors from the valley below who make the pre-dawn drive for the colour show on the peaks. Accommodation is in simple rooms and basic tented platforms; decor is minimal and rooms are heated with bukhari wood stoves in cooler months. The physical plant is rustic, and guests should expect limited facilities rather than polished hotel comforts.

Home-cooked Hunza meals are the centrepiece of the dining experience: daal, chapati, dried apricot dishes, and local walnut preparations. The kitchen uses seasonal produce, and meals are served family-style on the terrace with unobstructed peak views. There is no spa, gym, or pool.

Trekking support is available through family contacts: staff can arrange guides for day hikes above Duikar or longer treks toward Rakaposhi Base Camp. The property is welcoming to families, though the unpaved access road and limited facilities suit independent travellers and adventure-oriented guests rather than those expecting standard hotel amenities.

Tips for visiting

  • Arrive by mid-afternoon to acclimatise before sunrise; altitude at 2,900m causes mild headaches for guests arriving directly from lower elevations without adjustment time.
  • Bring warm layers even in July and August — temperatures drop sharply after sunset at this elevation and a light down jacket is useful on the terrace.
  • Confirm road conditions with the hotel before visiting after rain; the unpaved access track becomes difficult for standard vehicles when wet.
