Eleko Beach

Eleko Beach lies far out along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Ibeju-Lekki, roughly forty-five kilometres from Lagos Island, and is one of the quieter, less developed beaches in the Lagos region as a result of its distance from the city centre. The sand is coarse and largely undeveloped, stretching along an open Atlantic shoreline with moderate to strong surf, and the beach retains a natural, uncrowded feel compared to the busier beaches closer to Victoria Island and Lekki proper. There is little permanent infrastructure: a handful of local food shacks serve grilled fish and simple meals, and horseback riding is available seasonally, but there are no beach clubs, loungers-for-hire operations, or lifeguard service. The overall atmosphere suits visitors seeking a quiet escape from the city rather than a social scene, with wide open sand, few vendors, and long, largely empty stretches of shoreline outside of peak weekend periods. Parking is limited and informal, typically along the roadside near the beach entrance, which can become congested when demand exceeds available space. The drive from Victoria Island takes sixty to ninety minutes depending on traffic, making Eleko more of a deliberate day-trip destination than a casual outing. Because it lacks lifeguard supervision and sees stronger open-ocean surf at times, swimmers should stay close to shore and exercise caution, particularly outside the calmer dry season. The November to March dry season offers the most comfortable conditions for both the drive out and time spent on the sand.
