Cap Spartel is the headland at the north-western tip of Africa, west of Tangier in Morocco's Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean. The 1864 lighthouse stands among pine and eucalyptus, and viewpoints along the cliff give long views over the water, the shipping lanes of the Strait of Gibraltar and, on clear days, the Spanish coast.

Sunset is the favoured time, when low sun lights the lighthouse and colours the sea, while early morning brings fewer visitors and calmer light. A wide-angle lens captures the lighthouse and coast, and a telephoto lens is useful for passing ships. Wind can be strong, so a sturdy tripod and a jacket are advisable. The lighthouse interior is generally not open to visitors, and military or restricted zones nearby should not be photographed. Cafes and stalls near the car park sell tea and snacks, and camel and horse rides are offered for photos. Getting there takes about 25 to 30 minutes by taxi from central Tangier, and visitors should arrange a return pickup or ask the driver to wait, since taxis thin out after sunset.
