Hotel Chellah

Hotel Chellah is a three-star hotel on Rue Allal Ben Abdellah in the centre of Tangier's Ville Nouvelle, in Morocco's Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. It stands about 700 metres from the northern beaches and within reach of the central avenues, the Grand Socco and the medina by a short walk or taxi ride. The railway station and the ferry port are a few minutes away by car, so the hotel works as a budget-friendly base for travellers arriving from Spain or from other Moroccan cities. The building is a modern mid-range property rather than a heritage hotel, with practical interiors, simple decor and a focus on value. Its most distinctive feature is a large outdoor pool, which is unusual among central Tangier hotels at this price level and is especially appreciated in the hot summer months. Accommodation is offered as standard rooms, double or twin rooms and suites with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and nightly rates of roughly MAD 350 to 650 make it one of the more affordable choices in the central area. Meals are generally limited to a breakfast service, and guests usually eat at the many cafés, grills and seafood restaurants in the surrounding streets, which serve tagines, brochettes and fresh fish at modest prices. The hotel has no spa listed, so it suits travellers who want a clean base and a pool rather than a wellness stay. Service is informal and helpful, aimed at independent travellers, families and groups on a budget, and the staff can assist with taxis, excursions to Cape Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, and day trips to Asilah or Chefchaouen. Compared with luxury properties on the seafront, facilities are simpler, but the central position and the pool give good value. Reservations are advisable in July and August and during Moroccan school holidays.
