Portales de Toluca (Chorizo and Embutidos Arcade)

Portal Madero and Portal 20 de Noviembre, together known as the Portales de Toluca, are the arcaded colonial-era walkways lining the historic center of Toluca de Lerdo, Mexico State, next to Plaza González Arratia and the cathedral. Unlike a craft market, the goods here are food specialties: Toluca's signature chorizo verde and other embutidos (cured meats), plus obleas and traditional sweets sold from long-running, established shopfronts rather than temporary stalls. Because most vendors are established local businesses rather than tourist-facing stands, the mix skews heavily toward authentic regional products aimed at local buyers as well as visitors. Prices are fixed and posted, since these are retail shopfronts, not a bargaining market; most accept cash and increasingly card, though smaller shops may be cash-only. There is no tax-refund program for these small food retailers. The arcade runs along two adjoining portals, with the most established chorizo shops concentrated near the cathedral-facing end, while smaller oblea and sweet vendors are spread along the rest of the walkway. The atmosphere is a busy, everyday commercial strip rather than a tourist market, with the food being both the product and the on-site dining experience, since many shops sell tastings or small portions to eat while walking.
