Hotel Castelmar

Rooms are simple rather than designed, but they are generously proportioned by the standards of the walled city, with solid hardwood furniture, air conditioning, and windows or doors opening onto the arcade. A small restaurant serves breakfast in the courtyard and light meals through the day, and a tour desk at reception arranges transport and guided visits to Edzna, Calakmul, and the Petenes wetlands, as well as taxis to the ADO terminal and the airport. Location is the property's strongest argument. The Plaza de la Independencia and the cathedral are two blocks away, Calle 59's restaurants and bars are a similar distance, and the malecon and the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico are a two-minute walk through the Puerta del Mar. Rates generally run between MXN 1,190 and MXN 1,870 per night, which places Castelmar among the best-value options inside the walls of Campeche's capital, well below the boutique and hacienda properties while still offering colonial architecture, a pool, and a genuinely central address. Service is straightforward and unhurried, with a long-serving reception team, and the hotel is used as much by Mexican domestic travellers as by international visitors.
