Playa Hermosa, Ensenada

Playa Hermosa is Ensenada's closest swimmable beach, a broad sweep of light sand inside the sheltered curve of Ensenada's bay, a short drive south of the city's malecon. Because it sits inside the bay rather than facing the open Pacific directly, the water here is calmer than most beaches farther north or south along the coast, with gentle waves that make it comfortable for casual swimming and wading. The setting is urban rather than remote: Blvd. Estancia runs along the back of the beach, restaurants and small shops sit a short walk away, and the beach itself has a volleyball net that sees regular use on weekend afternoons. The sand is clean but the beach is compact compared with Rosarito or Estero Beach farther south, so it fills up quickly on hot summer weekends with families from Ensenada. Amenities are basic but sufficient: public toilets, street parking along Blvd. Estancia, and a scatter of nearby restaurants for food rather than beachfront concessions. There are no lifeguards on regular duty, so swimmers should stay within their comfort level even in the calm water. The beach is reached in about 10 minutes from the Ensenada malecon, either by a short rideshare or by taking a local bus along Reforma for around MXN 12, making it one of the most convenient beach options for visitors staying in the city centre without a car. Because of its proximity to town, Playa Hermosa works well as a short afternoon outing rather than a full day trip, and the view back toward Ensenada's port and hills adds to its appeal at sunset. The warmest, calmest swimming conditions run from June through October.
