Miyazaki-Sakai Beach (Jade Beach)

Miyazaki-Sakai Beach, known locally as the Jade Coast, runs for roughly 4 km along the shore of Asahi Town in Shimoniikawa District, near the Kurobe and Unazuki area in northeastern Toyama Prefecture. Unlike the sandy beaches further along Toyama Bay, this is a pebble beach, and the water here is clear but drops off more steeply than a shallow sandy shore, so swimmers should expect a rockier entry underfoot. The beach is long and relatively open to the bay, giving it moderate wind exposure and enough surf after storms to churn up small pieces of jade and other semi-precious stones onto the shore, a phenomenon that has made jade hunting a signature local activity. The atmosphere shifts with the crowd: it draws families for swimming in July and August and is also popular with younger visitors and stone hunters searching the pebbles after rough seas, without tipping into a party scene. On-site amenities include paid parking for about 100 cars, but there are no permanent sun loungers, restaurant facilities, or posted lifeguard hours directly on the beach, so visitors typically bring their own gear and food. Etchu-Miyazaki Station sits just a one-minute walk from the beach, making it one of the more transit-accessible beaches in the prefecture, reachable by local train from Toyama Station in roughly 50 to 60 minutes.
