Mizuki Shigeru Road Yokai Statues

Mizuki Shigeru Road is an 800-meter pedestrian street in Sakaiminato City lined with more than 170 bronze statues of yokai characters created by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, running from the JR Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum. The best frames pair a single statue as a sharp foreground subject against the shopfronts and street lanterns behind it, or use a low wide-angle to capture the full run of statues receding down the street. Morning light before 9:00am is softer and more even for the bronze detail, and the street is at its emptiest of tourists at that hour; by mid-morning tour groups and school trips fill the narrow street, making an unobstructed statue shot difficult. The statues are lit after dark as well, drawing a separate evening crowd for warm-toned, lantern-lit photographs, so the street effectively offers two distinct photographic windows in a single day. The street is photographable year-round with no seasonal closure, though summer afternoons bring the heaviest tourist volume. There is no fee to walk the street or photograph the statues, no drone restriction beyond standard rules for flying over a commercial pedestrian area (generally discouraged given the crowds), and tripods are permitted but should be used considerately given the street's narrow width and shop frontages.
