Yumigahama Peninsula Cycling Road

The Yumigahama Peninsula Cycling Road is a dedicated bicycle path tracing the curved sandbar peninsula between Yonago and Sakaiminato, separating the Sea of Japan from the brackish Nakaumi Lagoon. Riders follow a mostly flat, paved route past dune grass, pine windbreaks, small farms, and open coastal views, with the option to detour toward beaches on the sea-facing side or lagoon-facing viewpoints looking back toward Mount Daisen across the water. A full loop connecting Yonago and Sakaiminato, including stops, takes 2 to 4 hours by bicycle depending on pace and detours; shorter out-and-back rides from either town are easy to shorten to under an hour. Rental bicycles are available near both JR Yonago Station and JR Sakaiminato Station, with some rental shops offering electric-assist bikes for a higher fee, useful given the peninsula's occasional headwinds. The route is largely flat, making it accessible to casual riders rather than requiring cycling experience. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable riding temperatures, while clear winter days can provide the sharpest views of snow-capped Mount Daisen across the Nakaumi Lagoon. The path sees light traffic outside of weekends and cycling events, making weekday rides the quietest option.
