Yonago Castle Ruins

Yonago Castle Ruins occupy a hilltop in Yonago City, the former site of a castle built in the early 17th century by the Nakamura clan and later dismantled after the Meiji Restoration, leaving behind stone walls, terraced foundations, and commanding views that made the site strategically valuable. Visitors climb a network of stone-walled paths through what remains of the castle's baileys, passing interpretive panels describing the layout of the former keep and gate structures, though no buildings have been reconstructed. The hill's summit is the highlight of the visit, offering a sweeping panorama that takes in Yonago City below, the Sea of Japan to the north, and on clear days, Mount Daisen rising to the south, one of the widest combined views available in the region. A visit takes about 45 to 90 minutes, including the climb and time to take in the views from multiple vantage points around the summit. The ruins are especially popular at sunset, when the combination of city lights beginning to appear, the sea, and Mount Daisen silhouetted against the sky makes for a memorable, and largely uncrowded, viewpoint compared to more heavily visited castle sites elsewhere in the prefecture.
