Tempozan Harbor Village

Tempozan Harbor Village is a waterfront cluster of attractions in Minato Ward built around Osaka Bay, anchored by the Tempozan Ferris Wheel, one of the largest in Japan at 112.5 meters, whose illuminated color at night indicates the following day's weather forecast. The area also houses Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, the Tempozan Marketplace shopping and dining complex with harbor views, and the dock for the Santa Maria replica sightseeing cruise, a scaled-up recreation of Christopher Columbus's ship that runs short bay tours. The Ferris wheel's enclosed gondolas complete a full rotation in about 15 minutes and, from the top, offer views across Osaka Bay toward the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge on clear days. Combining the Ferris wheel, marketplace, and a bay cruise makes for a three-to-five-hour outing, and pairing it with the adjacent aquarium extends it into a full day. The harbor area is most atmospheric in late afternoon into evening, when the Ferris wheel and marketplace lights reflect off the bay and the aquarium crowds thin out ahead of its evening closing.
