Namba Parks

Namba Parks is a shopping and office complex in Naniwa Ward built directly beside Namba Station, distinguished by a terraced rooftop garden that rises across eight levels above the retail floors below. Designed by the Jerde Partnership and completed in 2003, the canyon-like rooftop park features curving lawns, streams, rock formations, and mature trees intended to evoke a natural canyon carved into the urban structure, offering a green counterpoint to the dense streets of Namba immediately below. The shopping levels house a mix of fashion retailers, home goods stores, and restaurants, with several dining floors offering views out over the rooftop gardens. A visit to walk the terraces and browse a few floors takes one to two hours, while a full stop for lunch or dinner extends it further. The upper terraces are the best vantage point for views over the Namba district, especially useful for photography in late afternoon light. The rooftop garden is at its best on clear afternoons, when the greenery and skyline views are both visible, and is noticeably quieter on weekday mornings than during weekend shopping hours.
