Kisakibaru Surf Beach — Sunrise & Waves

Kisakibaru Beach is a surf beach on the Pacific coast of Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, known for consistent swells that draw local surfers year-round and for its open eastward orientation, which makes it a strong sunrise location. The classic frame catches a surfer silhouetted against the rising sun as a wave breaks, or a wide seascape with the sun's reflection stretched across the water toward the shore. Because the beach faces directly into the sunrise, the sun sits low and nearly head-on rather than side-lit, rimming wave crests and surfer outlines in bright backlight; shooting from a position slightly off-axis to the sun reduces flare while keeping the warm glow. October through March brings the most consistent swell activity and a more dramatic winter sky, while summer surf tends to be smaller and the light hazier. The beach is rarely crowded outside of local surf competitions, though a dedicated group of surfers is reliably present at dawn. There is no fee to access the beach, and tripods are unrestricted on the open sand; drone use over active surfers should be approached cautiously given proximity and downdraft concerns. Parking is available in a small lot near the main beach access point.
