Nichinan Coast Seafood & Culture Tour

The Nichinan Coast Seafood & Culture Tour is organized by the Nichinan City Tourism Division, the municipal office responsible for promoting the coastal city south of Miyazaki. The five-hour, half-day route starts at JR Obi Station and combines four stops across the Obi and coastal area: a tasting of Obi-ten fried fish cakes at Mitsuma Kamaboko, a seafood lunch at a local restaurant featuring Nichinan Coast catch, a walking tour of the Obi Castle Town samurai quarter, and a visit to Udo Jingu Shrine, the cliffside shrine overlooking the Pacific. Between April and August, an additional stop adds a fresh mango tasting at a roadside farm along the coast. The tastings are weighted toward savoury seafood and fish cake, with the seasonal mango stop providing the tour's only sweet course. The ¥8,000 price includes round-trip transport from JR Obi Station, all listed tastings, the seafood lunch, and shrine and castle town admission where applicable; it does not include souvenirs or drinks beyond what is served with lunch. Groups are typically small, run in Japanese with Nichinan City Tourism Division staff, and the pace mixes walking through the castle town with seated tasting and lunch breaks, so participants should be prepared for a mix of activity levels across the half-day. Dietary substitutions for the seafood lunch, such as a non-seafood main, can sometimes be arranged if requested at the time of reservation, though the fish cake and seafood tastings are central to the tour's theme and cannot be substituted.
