Aoshima Botanical Garden

Aoshima Botanical Garden sits on the mainland shore just before the causeway to Aoshima Island, specializing in subtropical plant species suited to Miyazaki's warm coastal climate. The garden's centerpiece collections include bougainvillea, the flower widely regarded as a symbol of Miyazaki Prefecture, alongside palms and other tropical species arranged across greenhouse and outdoor sections. A walk through both the indoor tropical displays and the outdoor garden beds takes about 45-90 minutes. The garden makes a natural extension to an Aoshima Shrine visit, sitting a five-minute walk from the shrine causeway, and pairs well with time at Aoshima Beach for a half-day itinerary along this stretch of coast. The outdoor sections peak visually from April through June and again in October and November, when flowering displays are at their most colorful; the indoor tropical greenhouse remains a consistent draw in winter when outdoor blooms are limited. The on-site café serves local specialties including mango parfait and yuzu citrus drinks, a pleasant stop after walking the grounds.
