Miyazaki City Botanical Garden (Miyazaki-shi Shokubutsuen)

Miyazaki City Botanical Garden spans 8 hectares along the Oyodo River in central Miyazaki, combining subtropical and temperate plant collections with a free small zoo of birds and small animals that is especially popular with children. The garden's rose collection is one of its main draws, blooming across a dedicated section each May, while a chrysanthemum exhibition each November showcases elaborately trained specimen plants. Riverbank paths connect the garden directly to Miyazaki City center, making it possible to combine a garden walk with a stroll along the Oyodo River. A visit through the main garden sections and zoo takes about an hour to 90 minutes. The garden is closed on Wednesdays, so weekday visits should be planned around that closure. Spring rose season and the autumn chrysanthemum exhibition both draw large local crowds, particularly on weekends, so weekday visits or early mornings during those periods offer a calmer experience; outside these peak bloom windows, the garden is generally quiet.
