Equipment is limited to the rental bicycle itself; a helmet is recommended but not mandatory and can be requested at the museum counter, and cyclists should bring their own water bottle since services are limited once away from the museum building. There is no formal safety briefing since the activity is self-guided and takes place on low-traffic park paths rather than public roads, though museum staff can point out the recommended route and flag any sections closed for excavation work. The mounds are open and accessible year-round, but spring, from March to May, draws the most visitors for the wildflowers that bloom across the burial mound park, while October and November bring cooler cycling temperatures and autumn color. Visitors should avoid cycling during or immediately after heavy rain, when the grass paths between mounds become slippery and some sections may be temporarily closed by museum staff.
