Castle in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto
Fushimi Momoyama Castle
Fushimi Castle (also known as Momoyama Castle or Fushimi-jo) is a modern reconstruction (1964) of the magnificent castle originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1594. The white castle with distinctive green roofs sits prominently on a hill in Fushimi Ward. The original castle was the site of the 1600 Battle of Fushimi. The area surrounding it is famous for sake breweries and the castle is often overlooked by tourists, making it a peaceful alternative.
