Cocody Riviera and Hotel Ivoire Waterfront

The Cocody Riviera waterfront runs along Boulevard Hassan II in the Cocody district of Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, facing the Ebrie Lagoon beside the landmark Hotel Ivoire, a large modernist hotel complex that has anchored this stretch of shoreline since the 1960s. The promenade offers open lagoon views, palm-lined walking paths and, at points, glimpses of the Plateau skyline across the water, making it a popular spot for evening walks, jogging and informal gatherings among Abidjan residents. The Hotel Ivoire's grounds, including its ice-skating rink and casino, historically drew visitors as a destination in their own right, and while the hotel itself is a private property, its exterior and surrounding public waterfront remain accessible for a stroll. A visit of one to two hours allows time to walk a stretch of the promenade, take in the lagoon views, and stop at one of the cafes or restaurants that have opened along the Cocody shoreline in recent years. The best light comes in the late afternoon and at sunset, when the sun drops over the lagoon and the Plateau skyline begins to light up across the water, making this the preferred time for photography. Weekday evenings and weekends bring the most local foot traffic, especially around sunset, while weekday mornings are quieter and better suited to a peaceful walk. The area is one of Abidjan's wealthier residential districts, and the waterfront reflects that with a mix of upscale dining options alongside the open public promenade.
