Siena offers a compact range of places to stay: a small group of historic palazzo hotels and B&Bs inside the medieval walls, a handful of 3 and 4-star hotels around the Lizza gardens, Viale Cavour and the southern gates, and many farm stays and villas in the hills of Chianti and the Crete Senesi. The Grand Hotel Continental on Banchi di Sopra and the Certosa di Maggiano are the best-known upscale options. Rooms inside the walls are limited, and prices peak from April to October and around the Palio on 2 July and 16 August. Properties outside the walls, in the San Marco, Camollia and Pispini districts, usually cost less and offer easier parking, while the countryside farm stays suit travelers with a car.
