The classic Pisa composition: Cathedral, Baptistery and Leaning Tower on a green lawn in early light. The square is publicly accessible, with monuments ticketed separately.
Piazza dei Miracoli (Piazza del Duomo) is the UNESCO-listed square holding Pisa's Cathedral, Baptistery, Leaning Tower and Camposanto, set on a broad lawn inside the north-west corner of the city walls. At dawn the white marble is lit in warm tones and the lawn is almost empty, a sharp contrast with the crowds that arrive from mid-morning. The square can be entered freely at all hours, while monuments inside require tickets.
The Leaning Tower leans about four degrees after stabilisation works completed in 2001. Photographers usually shoot from the north-east along the lawn so that the Cathedral and Tower align, or from the south edge of the lawn for symmetrical frontal views.
