Room Mate Giulia

Room Mate Giulia occupies a historic building on Via Silvio Pellico, a narrow street connecting Piazza della Scala to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — the Duomo is a four-minute walk and La Scala opera house is directly around the corner. Duomo metro station on the M1 and M3 lines is five minutes on foot. Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola reimagined the interiors around a 1960s Milanese palette of pink Portuguese marble, curved bouclé furniture, moss green and terracotta tones, and brass detailing that references the city's mid-century design heritage rather than its more familiar Renaissance imagery. The 85 rooms and suites are compact by international luxury standards, consistent with the historic building's original floor plan, but are finished with the same design confidence throughout, from the Classic Rooms to the Giulia Suite with its private terrace. Pino, the ground-floor restaurant and bar, serves contemporary Italian small plates and cocktails and doubles as a lively aperitivo destination for Milan's design and fashion crowd, spilling onto the street in warmer months. The hotel's rooftop terrace offers close-up views of the Duomo's spires and the Galleria's glass roof, and is one of the more intimate rooftop settings in the historic centre. There is no spa or pool, and the hotel leans on its central location and design identity rather than extensive facilities. The Room Mate group is known for design-forward, moderately sized city hotels across Europe, and the Milan property fits squarely within that positioning — stylish, central, and social rather than sprawling.
