Vernazzola is a small fishing hamlet in the Sturla district of eastern Genoa, in Liguria, Italy, and one of the least-visited picturesque harbours in the city. Its compact frame centres on Piazza Vernazzola, a tiny waterfront square opening onto a small harbour where wooden boats rest on the slipway and a short breakwater extends into the sea. Pastel houses rise directly behind the square, and a church tower and the surrounding hills complete the composition.

The harbour faces south and south-east, so morning light reaches the facades and the boats cleanly, and the scene is at its best in the first hours of the day when the water is calm and the colours are saturated. From the end of the breakwater, blue hour offers a good view back at the lit houses, and a compact tripod is useful for those exposures. April to October gives the most reliable weather and the warmest evenings, while stormy days bring waves over the breakwater for dramatic shots. Compared with nearby Boccadasse, Vernazzola is quiet, although warm evenings and weekends bring locals to the square's restaurants and the slipway. Photographers rarely have to queue for a position, but the square is small, so tripods should stay at the edges and out of the way of diners and boat owners. There is no fee. Tripods are not known to be restricted, and drones are heavily restricted in the urban area under Italian civil aviation rules. A polariser helps with reflections on the water and the colour of the sea. Restaurants and cafes on the square provide restrooms and water. The square is reached by a short, steep descent from the main road, with some steps.
