Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel occupies a restored aristocratic residence on Piazza Duomo, the cathedral square at the top of Matera's historic centre. The position is exceptional: the Matera Cathedral stands immediately adjacent, the Sasso Barisano quarter fans out below the terrace to the northwest, and the Sasso Caveoso is a ten-minute walk south along the ridge. The palazzo's stone facade dates to the 17th century, and the interior conversion into a boutique luxury hotel—completed in 2009—preserved the vaulted stone arches, original floor tiles, and frescoed ceilings found in several rooms. The property comprises 17 rooms and suites. Classic and deluxe rooms offer contemporary furnishings against exposed stone walls; Sassi suites add a private terrace with direct views over the ancient cave districts below. All units have air conditioning, satellite television, and in-room espresso machines.

The wellness area on the lower level includes a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms offering massages, body wraps, and beauty therapies. The rooftop terrace, which opens as a cocktail bar from late afternoon, provides the widest panoramic view over the Sassi available from any hotel in the town centre, and is particularly compelling at sunset and after dark when the cave districts are lit. The on-site restaurant Il Cortigiano serves a menu rooted in Lucanian cuisine—rich lamb ragùs, handmade pasta with aged ricotta, grilled meats—in a vaulted cellar space, with a wine list anchored by Aglianico del Vulture.
